Rebuilding the fuel pump-diaphragm removal

Hi Folks,
I was able to remove the upper diaphragm without too much trouble, but the lower one is quite stubborn. The upper is held in with just one link, but the lower uses a double link and no amount of angling seems to release it. Any ideas? I hesitate to use any sort of tool in case I slip and damage the casting. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Just keep wiggling (pressing in on the diaphram while you rotate and tilt the pump body....it it will come out.,..now getting it back in will be a real effort...one I have taken a break on. Have you printed out the overhaul manual??? They have you make a little tool to speed reassembly. I am afraid my fuel pump overhaul will be pushed off until next winter when I have the time and patience for it!!!

overhaul manual? That sounds helpful! I don't think it's on my CD of manuals, where can I get it? Thanks.

Got to this web site and search for TM9-1828A (no spaces and use the pattern search option) There are two fuel pump manuals you want the newer one (1952)

ok, at the site now, but the search results show nothing for fuel pumps, just Army activity reports from Vietnam. what am doing wrong?
