IDing My M37

I've had this truck for several years, but (shame on me) I've only relied on "correctness" of the markings based on what the guy who sold it to me said.

So, advice, please!

Hi River,

I'm not sure what you're asking...........are you trying to find out what unit in the Army had your truck? If you search "unit marking" you wil find lots of info. How about some closer pics of your truck?

"Lots of info" is the problem - so much it's hard to find answers.
The unit markings are:
Bumper: B6 2-381
Yellow Grille tag: C
04
Hood: 3G 5194

Hi River,

The yellow grille tag is called the Bridge Plate. It's used to indicate the weight class of the vehicle to ensure it's not too heavy to cross specific bridges along a route. The "c" means you're towing a trailer. People like to put these bridge plates on their M37s as they're a colorful accessory that was actually used. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell you anything about the specific vehicle it's mounted on. They also put a 4" yellow circle on the doors with a black "4" in the middle to serve the same purpose. I'm not sure why some trucks had the circles on the door and some did not..........maybe someone on here knows.

When I get home I can find the guidelines for the unit markings on your bumpers. The hood numbers were put on the truck when it was delivered to the Army, but I don't believe anyone has ever found the decoder ring that tells us which hood numbers went where. All the IDing info on these trucks is on the bumpers.

Hi River,

Search the forum for "Bumper number/letters" and you'll see my posting from way back that describes how to correctly mark the bumpers of your M. There's some examples from the Regs and you should be able to decipher what's on yours.

And those front bumper markings are backward-the "B6" should be on the driver's side with the unit info on the passenger side.

Now I know the numbers are not "correct" based on your bumper and grille tag posts.
Leads me to believe the whole thing was faked up. The guy who sold me the truck is gone, so I guess this is just part of his legacy.

I'm not sure but I think Chucks looking for the history of his bumper markings. If that's the case this link might be of some help.

Hi Chuck,

The bumper markings may be in the wrong order/location, but it still looks like one nice truck. Post some more pics of the rest of it if you get some time.

It does look like they were applied to the wrong side of the bumper. The unit ID should be on the left as looking from the front.
