How loud?
Driving Theodore (Our M37) I keep wondering just how loud a stock M37 should be? Pretty much its yelling back and forth in the cab if you want to say anything. Are they all this loud inside?

Re: How loud?
Yep-loud enough to consider hearing protection, especially at 40mph+....

Re: How loud?
It actually seems to be a little better with no top on in my experience...

Re: How loud?
I agree, no top is better. I just put the canvas back on and it's much louder. The weird thing is that most of the noise seems to come from the fan and the transfer case! The exhaust is new and though it's not quiet, it certainly does not compete with the mechanical "symphony". I'm always a bit concerned that I can't hear something critical going wrong...

Re: How loud?
mine was loud till i put 5 quarts of gear lube in the transfer case and transmission. the guy i bought it from says "oh yeah, they always whine like that"
i have no problem holding a conversation in either of mine with the hard tops on, and my floor pans are not sealed as good as they could be.

Re: How loud?
I'll qualify my response, that's at 40+mph w/ 4.89's
.

Re: How loud?
Does taking along a passenger help in your machines? I just did a car drop off with one of my guys and its noticeably quieter in the cab with a passenger.
Blocking exhaust noise maybe?

As long as that passenger isn't a wife !

Re: How loud?
i am thinking of going to tractor supply and buying a sheet of 4x8 foot 1 inch thick rubber mat they put in horse stalls and lining the floor, tranny hump with it.
those sheets probably weigh 100 lbs each.
if we add mass
it will dampen sound

might as well do the cab too

then cutting them out in rubber and maybe tying it all together with black duct tape (that gorrila stuff works good)

I have used those gray foam interlocking floor mats you can find at hardware and auto stores. I think even Princess Auto (Canada) and Harbor Freight (USA) carry them.
Lighter, easier to cut and form, and a closed foam rather than rubber. Worked well in my M1009 CUCV.
