I believe the 230 runs around 3200+ rpm. Most mechanical diesels run around 2800 tops unless modified. I'd imagine your going to run something mechanical for ease of install but expect the truck to be slower then stock unless you decide to swap transmissions. If so, the best bet would be to sell all your Braden winch equipment and buy a big electric with the money and adapt it to the front. To hydraulically drive the Braden off a pto is $, and getting a pto to work with the stock winch driven by a shaft isn't anything I've been able to find any info on.

yes definitely mechanical
cant I just regear the axles ?
can a 4bt be mated to my stock tranny?
can you even get a pto for a swapped in tranny (ie)5speed over drive tranny ?
Vpw sells lower ratio r&p for about $550 per axle. I'm not sure who would make an adapter plate for a 4BT to a stock trans. Another consideration is being able to get a flywheel bolted up to the crank on the cummins. Most 5 speeds have PTO covers on them, the NV4500's have a decent amount of hydraulic options out there for dump beds, tow trucks, etc but getting one that would work with a Braden would be the challenge. I did some research and wrote off the feasibility of it, my Braden sits dead on the front of the truck. It's not a wheeler anyways and one day I may sell everything and get an electric but it will probably be no time soon as I like the look of the stocker sitting up there.
Maybe check with garbee after reading this site, see how he did it
There is definitely more then 1 way to skin a cat when it comes to swaps, the way I went was easiest/most sensible for my knowledge level. I used mostly dodge 2500 diesel 5 speed parts which is something I have done a lot of work with in the past. Hanging pedals with the dodge master cylinder and slave cylinder made things go very smoothly instead of adapting the stock pedals to a swap. Parts are readily available too.
the PTO that will fit a NV4500 is a Chelsea 351 or 352. it is a reversable PTO just like the stock unityou just have to make sure it has the right gear inside to mate to the NV 4500.

Spicer 3053A is a pretty stout 5 speed OD tranny that you can easily bolt to a 4BT engine. I guess it's readily available since It's from the m35 deuce and half that seems to appear for sale everywhere in the States.
Charles T. here has done many conversions that way (4bt/3053A)
I've used them when I did my conversions (M37 and M43) behind GM 6.2 V8 diesels.
Just don't get confused with the spicer 3052, it looks the same, it's 5 speed but it's not OD.
