Jump Seats in '54s

Post by mike_l »

Greetings all,

My truck didn't have holes or the weld nuts for the jump seat. I assumed the bed had been replaced at some point in its service with a B1 style front wall or entire bed. I was at a MV show in Portland Indiana this past weekend and saw a truck that was 2 months younger than mine. My truck was delivered early March, the other truck late April. It also didn't have any holes or weld nuts on the front wall.

So, does everyone else that has a '54 model have the jump seat mounting holes/weld nuts? Either both of our trucks had the front wall/beds replaced or they stopped putting them in toward the end of the production. I wouldn't have given it much thought except the truck was only a couple of months from mine and as we suspect from the pintle change, it may have been something else that slipped by us.

Does the Jump seat fold up in front of the spare tire? I have a 52 truck with a bed mounted spare.

Mike,

Mine is a 54 (delivered 3/2/54) and it doesn't have the jump seat or the hole locations to mount one.

My frame number is 80260628, what's yours?

Hi Kevin,

Your truck is REAL close to mine. My number is 80261105, less than 500 away. Mine was built FEB 25 and delivered 3-1-54.

I'm starting to smell another production change.

Mike.

My '53 has the brackets on the bed front.

Hey Just Me,

What is your delivery date or frame number?

If we can get more responses we can narrow down a date range on any changeover that may have occurred.

Mine is 80261313, delivered 3-8-54.

No jump seat holes.

I thought this was odd, because there's evidence that it did have seats at one point, just never the jump seat.

Chris,

Thanks for adding. Just days after mine was delivered.

I'll have to send a note out to all the '54s and late '53s to see what responses we get back. Sounds like the pintle thing again.

Real close to mine, Jay: 80262017, but mine was allegedly delivered in April (15th) 1954. I intend to order the build card from Chrysler to possibly confirm.

Gary , that's amazing they are so close.
Where and how do we order a build card?

I have the original data plates in mine, they were taken off and put on the inside of my glove compartment door, and the NOS ones re stamped with the same info and put in the correct place. Like when you open the door its a mirror of the original and new data plates.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but here's the old post data on build cards:

These jump seats, were they mounted on the front part of the rear bed? Facing rearward? I've seen the rear troop seats, but never saw a picture of a jump seat. Mine doesn't have any rear seats so, only have pictures to go by.

Yes, the hinges were bolted to the front wall behind the spare and they had a lip on the other end of the seat boards. When raised they dropped down to set on the end of the right troop seat like a table leaf to make one long bench like on the left side.
