With all the talk of fording kits for the M37 , when parts come up , what would a fair price for the air intake tube should be? Like the tube and bolts etc., no mount that goes on the truck ( I already have that).
I wanted to put up a new ad here and maybe another forum for one, Thank you-
Fair price for a part?

Re: Fair price for a part?
I can't say, Jay-if someone only needs those parts to finish a restoration the price would be much higher than someone with a casual interest.
Anyone have any other thoughts?

Re: Fair price for a part?
Hi Jay,
There's really no way to answer that question.....really. What's "fair" to you might me incredibly expensive to me......or stupidly low. When parts supplies start to dry up for anything all bets are off. Give you an example from yesterday. Let's talk yellow bridge plates. Popular among M-Series truck owners, but getting harder to find NOS in the box. On Ebay nice used sets go for around $125. NOS would be out of the park if they come up at all. But many folks who don't look at Ebay don't know they're getting rare. I walked by a guy's table about ten times yesterday and right in the middle was a shiny new yellow bridge plate sitting on top of its box. No one asked the guy what he wanted for it because we all knew it would be $100+. Toward the end of the day I figured what the heck....and asked the guy what he wanted for it. He sheepishly said "40 bucks?" I asked why it hadn't sold in these past 2 days and he said....."no one asked". He thought he was high at $40.
So to a guy who's had that fording pipe sitting in his garage for twenty years and wants it gone........a fair price could be $10. To someone who knows the rarity of the part it might be worth $75. The only way to know what a fair price is for anything is to know how many are in existence and how many people want them. Throw an add up on Steel Soldiers and maybe the MVPA....don't members get one free add, or am thinking of something else? You might want to post a pic in your ads...........some folks might have one and not know what the heck it's for.
regards,
bob

Re: Fair price for a part?
Bob ,
That's a good idea. I will find and post a picture with an ad.
I figure ill pay about double what one would retail for to finish my truck, if anyone has one they aren't using or a extra.
I went to the local flea market this morning and found some great deals on items like WW2 ammo cans because I don't think people know what they were selling for. , jay
