I'm asking for a little help regarding the correct mounting for the stock fuel pump on my 51 M37. I am trying to get my engine to stay running after rebuild. I have a new fuel pump that came mounted on the old engine.
My question is if the fuel pump needs a spacer between it and the block?
My engine runs very nice for 10 minutes or so, after hand priming the carb. Then it dies and the carb and lines are dry. I have had the same issue if I am running out of the fuel tank, or from a 5 gallon can. I disconnected the truck's hand primer that picks up its fuel from the top of the fuel filter mounted on the regulator bracket. No changes to the fuel supply seems to make any difference.
It seems I had seen a spacer for stock fuel pumps when looking through parts lists somewhere, But now I am not seeing it. If it needs one, maybe I am not getting proper stroke on the fuel pump??
Thanks for any input!

Re: Stock Fuel Pump Mounting
I do not believe I've ever seen a spacer between the stock fuel pump and the block.
You might try sending a PM to Charles Talbert or RMS. You might also try talking to John at Midwest Military. They are all very knowledgeable, and with their experience, may have seen this issue before.
I can think of a number of things it could be, but they would all just be guesses.

Like 52M-42 I have never heard of a spacer or shim used between the stock fuel pump and block. But I did remember a post about the thickness of the gasket material used. Here is the link I hope it helps

Re: Stock Fuel Pump Mounting
Very good help and information Guys - Thanks.
I'll post what I find for the solution to my fuel delivery problem after I figure it out. However I have a Family Reunion to attend this weekend, so it may be the weekend after next before I can finish troubleshooting it.
