Motor Mount Plate Straps

Post by bill monahan »

Just pulled my radiator for a long overdue refurbishing. Now thats its out of the way I noticed that the two metal straps that loop over the crossmember are not bolted to the motor mount plate. I assume they should be bolted to the plate. Although the holes line up they are fairly small. Should they be bolted?

If you're referring to the two "Z" shaped brackets ("BB" and "RR" in the illustration below) that connect the radiator support ("T") to the front engine support plate, then yes, they should be bolted to the plate. These brackets allow the radiator to be pulled as an assembly with the engine.

The ORD 9 SNL calls for 3/8-24NF x 1" cap screws ("AA"), along with plain and lock washers ("Z" and "Y"), at both ends of the brackets.
