Are There Any Air Force B1 M37s ?

Hi Guys,

I've never seen a B1 painted Strata Blue.........did the AF ever order any, or did they just buy the earlier versions? Anybody know what the AF replaced the M37 with?

Generally, the Korean was fought with WW2 equipment. M37's replaced WW2 WC's and were delivered to all the services. They were painted a color unique to each of those services. (USA, USMC, USAF, and USN)

When the Korean War ended, we entered the "Cold War" and made the transition to a whole new level of technology. For example, in WW2, many of our military aircraft took off and landed on turf. Higher levels of technology required the use of improved landing fields. And soon, the "six-pack" (Dodge "W" series) became the common choice for USAF personnel to drive on concrete to get to the BX. Somewhere along the way there were fewer M37’s in the USAF – and fewer Strata Blue ones.

In Viet Nam, the USAF did have M37’s and other tactical vehicles that were standard issue for the USA but many USAF missions were flown from air bases that were distant from Nam.

Typically, the USAF flew many missions from Thailand. Usually in cases like these there were many “foreign aid/mutual defense treaties” where M-37’s were transferred to the host nations. Vintage Power Wagons currently has surplus M-37’s from Thailand.
