Crazy Idea: NP205 case, with NP203 output

So, I got a crazy idea: does anyone know if someone has ever mated an NP203 rear full time differential to an NP205 case?

I was tossing around the idea of using the 203, but its so damned big, and heavy, and chain driven. I could have the best of both worlds if I could adapt a 203 rear full time differential to the back of my 205... then I'd have a bulletproof, full time 4WD case!!

no, thats not what I meant... Im not sure why people do those... by the time you get done doing custom driveshafts, finding the parts, buying the adapter plates, etc, you have as much into it as just going and getting a Stak or Atlas case.

I altered my idea some... Im going to use detroit true-trac in the front differential, because it can be run in full time 4WD on dry pavement (its a torsen type unit), and instead of a 203 differential, Im going to use an audi center torsen unit (should hold up, they take the abuse of 3000 lb, 600 hp, 10 second Audi drag cars just fine). Im going to mount it to the front output of the 205, that way I can make the truck RWD, AWD High, AWD low, 4WD high, 4WD low...

The AWD would come in handy on slick roads, like light snow and rain, the RWD would be nice for cruising, and the true 4WD will rock for crawlin!

Ummmm...aren't AWD (all-wheel drive) and 4WD (4-wheel drive) the same thing on a 4-wheeled vehicle??

no, AWD drives all 4 wheels, all teh time, even on dry pavement. 4WD (usually) only drives two, and it drives them @ exactly the same speed all the time, so it can't be run on dry pavement

One other thing Im going to do is swaybars as well... only, they are going to electronically disconectable... flip a switch, they unlock :wink:

Josh - just my observation, but this sight tends to stay more towards the "right" as far as M37 and I've observed more "left" modifications over on the powerwagon site. You may find more answers on modifications by posting there as well.

I was just yankin' your chain, Josh. I knew the difference between "AWD" and "4WD," but since AWD does actually drive all 4 wheels, it is still (gramatically speaking) "4-wheel drive." I always thought that it was a poor choice of terms and that "full-time 4WD" would have been better.

Yes, I agree!!

AWD is technically 4WD, but, I consider it better then 4WD, because, its actually 4WD!!

yeah, I havent joined that forum, one is enough, there are other forums I waste my time on too.

I decided that solenoid actuated swaybars is too dificult, I think I will go with pneumatic instead, as I planned to have on board air already.
