This doesnot make any sense to me but, my m37 does not seem to perform like one would think it should. I have been told by a select few people that the m715 didnot have the power that the m37 has. Keeping this in mind a good friend of mine got into the mv hobby and go a m715 straight out of the woods. So we got it running and up to shape for the road. When we take both the m37 and m715 out the m715 is pulling out ahead of the m37. So is this true that the m715 was "stronger" and my m37 is not performing to spec? My m37 has 8200 original miles and i had the carb professionaly rebuilt, installed new fuel lines and an electric pump also rebuilt my distrubitor with a new coil and electric ignition. Also I have done all of the regular maintance things. Thanks in advance for all of your input, the advise I get here is always great.

If your tires and gearing are stock, you should be able to run 50 mph on the highway fairly comfortably (for the truck, that is). 55 mph is possible for shorter periods without damaging a good driveline, but is not recommended. (The military restricted them to 50 mph off-base when they were new, which should tell you something.)

The M715 was a newer vehicle, so it probably had a more modern engine. It also had a higher top speed, but military reasoning seemed to be that 50 mph was fast enough and didn't bother to increase it.

I had occasion, back in 1961, to drive a brand new '61 Ford F-100 once in a while. The NCOIC of the motor pool always reminded us that "yeah...the speedometer goes to 120, but yer only allowed to do 50...even on the autobahn!"
