What is the correct gross weight GVWR/GVM ?

Thank You for letting me in

I need some help in finding out what is the correct gross weight- GVWR/GVM on the M37 ?
I have done a lot of google , picture search for dataplates and mil spec docs and more..
And i have ended up with several different gross weights... I know there are difference with or without a winch , but still i find several different.

Reason I ask is that in my country (Norway) we have fairly strict limitations what we can drive on a car driver license
One limit is that the car cannot not have a approved/specified gross weight heavier than 7713lbs.
Anything heavier demands a truck driver license I does not matter if we drive it empty or not , its the gross weight written registration document for the car that is the limitation...
I do not want to be the only one in my family that legally can drive it if I import one as a restoration project

I have not been able to find anyone in Norway with a M37 so far so i cannot not compare any registration documents...
Will probably need to try find some official documents for proving it what that time comes..

The weight i have found so far :
without winch 7550lbs mil spec documents
with winch 7800lbs mil spec documents

without winch 7917lbs , data plate on google
with winch 8147lbs dataplate google
without winch 7687lbs dataplate google

What is correct ? maybe all are correct but on different versions ?
Seems like the winch version is too heavy, and the one without maybe or maybe not.

Ola, welcome to the forum.

The U. S. Army Operation and Organizational Maintenance manual (TM 9-8030, May 1955) for the G-741 series (M37 cargo truck, M42 command truck, M43 ambulance, and V41 telephone maintenance) shows that the lightest gross weight specification (either M37 or M42 without winch) for on-highway use is 7,917 pounds.

How in the world did Norway come up with 7713lbs as a commercial weight? In the US its over 10,000 lbs commercial, [DOT physical card required] and 26001 lbs for Commercial license and physical card. Just seems like a very random number for a weight. Good luck on getting it all sorted out. Would be neat to be only one around with an M37.
Now that I think about it, how did the US come up with 26,000 lbs??? for CDL license

Welcome aboard from abroad! I'll 2nd Elwood's info, as I have the same TM and checked his numbers-100% accurate. I suppose you could weigh your vehicle to get its exact weight.

The 7713lbs is 3500KG (3499), they changed it like 15 years ago that everyone who got their car driver license after 1993 can only drive gvwr 7713, and those who got one before can drive up to 16534lbs,if they went to get a"stamp" on the drivers license in time.....
I will try to figure out what the authorities here use for registration, if it is the same 7917, or different.

Yep, it's Fagerstrand in Nesodden. Sounds like your pretty close, we probably pass by you on the way to and from the airport. Small world! I'm new to the site too and just picked up an M37 recently so I'm on a bit of a learning curve. How's the M37 in the "slaps" lately?

Sorry for the late update Andy
Putting on some chains on the tires and i think the M37 would be unstoppable in any type of snow..(or extremely stuck after awhile)

I had to put the M37 import to Norway on hold.
Mainly because of weak norwegian Krone compared to the USD .. november 1usd =6,90nok , now 1usd=8.20nok...
Other reason is that i have not been able to get a definitive answer from authorities if i can get the m37 registered to be legally driven on regular driver license (weight).
I have tried to find norwegian registered m37s and ask for info , but no luck so far.
When/if I get some usefull information I will make a post for others to use.

But I had to have something to play with for now , so yesterday i got a deal on a 1964 Volvo Laplander L-3314 with B20 sport engine and 35" tires. (similar one like in the pic)
Yes it far from a M37 , but i think it will be good fun
Volvo Laplander L-3314 is probably a rare thing in the US
More mountain goat than a car...........

Is that thing as short as it appears in the photo? It has the wheelbase of a golf cart!!

I hear you on the currency. I've often been on the other end of that. Looks like this summer may be at discount rates . Good luck w/ your M37 hunt. There was one I spotted for sale in the US that had been returned from Norway, so there must be a few left over there.

Yes I think most of the M37 in Norway is equipment from one of the earlier old US bases here.
after some years it was mainly equipment depots
Yes the volvo is short but not as bad as the pic look hehe:

length 4.5m = 13+ feet
wide 1.65m =5.4 feet
height 2m= ca 6.7feet
weight= 3,957 lb
7 persons

Yes it is a 4 door softtop ,5 if you count the rear door

If your roll over with this one it will be the end...
So a roll bar will be the summer project for safety
