Part numbers make no sense

Post by w30bob »

Hi Guys,

Is this a Canadian M37 chassis harness? The part numbers on the box make no sense and on the one side of the box is says "Chrysler Corporation of Canada". I've never seen any Canadian specific M37 parts for sale so I don't know what kind of part numbering system they used. If it is Canadian maybe someone could use it.

Not sure but I do know that a M37 wiring harness costs a lot more than $120.00.

The closest I can find in my book is:

2510-00-040-1929 CC/1391398 WIRING HARNESS, BRANCHED, chassis (cargo) (used up to serial No 91,401,713 (incl)

If anyone has access to the Drawings, then CC/1391398 might shed some light on exactly what this is but I don't see anything for the rest of the numbers on the box....

Edit: I'm pretty sure that the NSN numbers are the same, if the part is identical. Anyone know how they break down? Chrysler Canada assembled the M37CDN family trucks in Windsor, Ontario likely using common parts from the same source as the US Dodge built units. For Canadian content, the 251 and Acme t98 were built in Canada. Differences are the 251, Acme t98 trans and Acme pto, and some differences in rad mount and sheet metal due to the longer 251 block. The only wiring difference that I am aware of was the Convoy Light and its harness. We do know that a lot of CDN spares were bought up and went south when Canada finally replaced the M37 family in the later part of the '70s.

Good diggin' guys. Hopefully someone with a CDN M37 can use it.

Ray.....actually that's about the right price for a chassis harness. It's only the fuel sender, tail lights and trailer socket in the chassis harness, so it's not real complicated and doesn't use too many connectors, The body harness usually costs a bit more.

The problem with all those old NOS harnesses is the rubber insulation degrades over time, whether the box is sealed or not. Even if it looks pristine when you open it that 70 year old rubber insulation will break down quickly once exposed to the elements. Then you'll find yourself replacing it again in a few years. I find the old harnesses are best for using as a pattern to make a new harness out of modern automotive wire and re-using the Douglas connectors.
