timing help

hellow im new here and i was given a m37 navy crash truck / fire truck ,anyway i am trying two make shore it is close to in time but i dont know how to tell where the # 1 piston is can anyone help thancks

Robertfire, Number one piston is the front one, closest to the radiator on a flathead or inline six cylinder engine.

on #6 there is a small plug. remove and use a piece of wire to find top.
