Info needed on transmission parts

Post by Chris P »

I have the early transmission with casting C88671.

Third gear moves around , so I purchased a new main shaft. I also need to purchase the snap rings that go on the main shaft. Does anyone know where I could obtain the snap rings? Does anyone have a part number for them?

Also, I need to move the shift lever far the right to engage reverse, which I've read on an older thread means the some parts in the tower are worn. Does anyone know which parts I should replace to fix this problem?

Thank you

If memory serves me, (I don't have a parts book in front of me.) The snap rings had 4 sizes. The way you find out the size is put the thickest one in if it will not fit, try the next size smaller witch ever size fits that's it go from large to small thickness.
as far as finding them someone on the forums might have set or the web or last but not least the vendors.

Good luck

Hi Chris,

John is correct, it comes in 4 sizes. Here's what's listed in the ORD....

CC-1265649/7373603/size 0.086-0.088
CC-1265650/7373604/size 0.089-0.091
CC-1265651/7373605/size 0.092-0.094
CC-1265652/7373606/size 0.095-0.097

Hope that helps,
bob

I got more mine from Sid Beck before he passed on. Not sure who ended up with his inventory. Charles Talbert may know a source.
Good luck.

We have custom made some snap rings, I have not found any commercially available in the correct thicknesses. We have all 4 of the different thickness rings on hand. As with any custom machined parts, the cost is not cheap, however we will refund $$ for rings that were not used if they are returned to us in new, unused condition. This way you only pay for the one you actually used.

We can repair the shift tower/stub shaft/pin issue in house. You would have to send your entire top cover assembly to us. Cost generally requires around $200 worth on machining and heat treating service, approx. 4 hours of labor is involved in tear down, clean up, and rebuilding. There is also a moderate charge for shop supplies used; such as detent balls, stainless steel tie wire, small parts, blasting and washing, paint, etc. The repair we offer is far better than a new original assembly.

Not a problem,

I'm getting spacers together for you, had to grind some. Didn't have as many as I thought. I'll be in touch.
