Aberdeen show.Anyone considering NOT attending due to gas$?
I keep reading about the soon to be $4.00 a gallon price of gas. I am wondering how this will affect the upcoming show at Aberdeen, especially for those who have long drives to get there.
Fortunately for me the show site is no further away than a drive to work, and believe me I am not bragging, I'm just glad I am still going to be able to attend the show even with the high price of gas. I wish this would end and gas prices would drop back to a managable level. I doubt we'll see that happening any time soon.

I doubt you'll ever see a thawing of gas prices. The commodities market is ruled by emotion and illogical nonsense, and that determines the price of oil. The oil companies are always ready to raise prices, even though the oil you see trading for $118 a barrel won't be in the system for months or years.
I know the pricing has effected my spending at home. With two children, we have to focus on them and their needs, so other things go by the wayside.
We have cancelled any long distance vacations. Aberdeen is still doable since I am riding with four other guys from our local club.
I know for a fact that it has almost shut down some of our local events here, as not many can afford to drive their MV's very far or are saving the gas for the big shows, like Aberdeen.
This is just another hobby that is feeling the crunch, like the price of stamps killing stamp collecting for kids.

Unfortunately, I won't be there, and the price of gas is a major cause. Between hotel cost, and me lack of overtime over the past month, I haven't saved up enough to justify the drive. It really sucks because it's always a great time, and I get to put names to faces so to speak.
Gas prices will also affect how many parades etc. I'm going to be driving the M in this year as well. with the price of everything else going up, I just can't put the truck ahead of food, and utilities. sad times.

Gas$
Yes, this really sucks. I just got my truck licensed and driveable and now I wonder how much driving I wil lbe able to do. I just paid $3.53 a gallon to fill the F150 this morning. I always get gas when the needle hits the 1/4 tank mark, and up till today I was able to fill the tank with $45.00 worth. Now it took $50.00. Three days from now when I get gas again, it will cost $60.00. Its only a matter of time when the price will start causing panic in people and then we'll see things get real ugly.
I can see rationing coming down the road again. Who remembers those days during the 70's gas crunch when you could only get gas on certain days of the week and/or based on the last digit of your license plate number? And then yo ucould only buy so much. I was only about 10 years old then but I remember my parents agonizing over it. That coupled with long lines at the pumps made for some flared tempers to say the least. Then we had the midnight runners who would sneak around the neighborhood at night with siphoning hoses and gas cans stealing gas wherever they could. My dad's go to work car got hit by them one time. They drained about 1/4 tank of his gas. Dad was po'd to say the least. Locking gas caps were flying off the store shelves. I can see those days returning, and this time it seems there may be no end to things. I pity what my children will be running into when they are of driving age. Hope they invent some kind of renewable fuel cells that the average working man can afford by then....

After crunching the numbers the other week, before gas rose another 20 cents, I was already looking at nearly 4 bills in gas, hotel, food, tolls ect. and that was for one day checking out the show and a nights stay. I live just far enough that a day trip is out of the question. Then there is the $1000 or so in stuff I want to get for the truck. So no go for me unless I find a car pool.
I've always had this view that we are heading towards a Mad Max scenario where the only things that are of any value are gas, gold, guns and drinking water. Wait a minute.... we are almost there minus the anarchy but that will come if the democrats win in November

The only good thing is I drive my M37 once or twice a month so gas isn't an issue with the beast yet.

Mad Max
You're not alone friend. I've had similar thoughts and sadly I think this can become a reality very quickly. The only difference between us and the Mad Max scenario is, we haven't pushed the button yet and are living in a post apocolyptic society, but that isn't too far fetched either these days.

Sadness...
You can bet those who are selling parts are going to want top $ plus for their parts too to offset gas costs, so I doubt any of us will be buying much if anything. So far I only plan to buy the spare tire and rim that Cabell is bringing to the show ( I need to find out the $ of it first), plus a new East Coast Convoy shirt, and that may be it.
Left Coast Woes too...
Bit Off Topic, but Beastie and I won't be going to Albany Rifle and Pistol's "West's Biggest Machinegun Shoot" this year.
Driving, even in the econobox to Western OR and the various costs to sleep in a hotel room, plus ammo and range fees make this year a NO GO for us..
Bought a new handgun, some ammo, and thats IT according to the "war Department" for this year and "new toys for daFatman".
Still not sure with uS econ going so I keep on plunking with Old Blue, even though I can't see an end to getting 'im done ..
Maybe by that time, boy and I can afford to drive truck to Aberdeen..

'52 M-37 "Rusty Red" parted

We camped out at the show last year to help save some $$ for parts & fuel money. Even without the old field available there is still room on the grass along the edges for tents. Not sure if that would help enough to allow you to go..... Diesel was bad last year for the 5ton - trying not think about it for this year.obxron wrote:After crunching the numbers the other week, before gas rose another 20 cents, I was already looking at nearly 4 bills in gas, hotel, food, tolls ect. and that was for one day checking out the show and a nights stay.
