Hi Tuko,

There's a whole bunch or Pioneer racks on eBay for $40.....which is about what they go for. Just search "pioneer m37" and they'll pop up.

good call on the ebay, I did grab one of the $40 ones. Now onto the tools, is there a cross reference for some new production look-a-likes? Ames, True temper. etc that anyone knows of?

Hi Tuko,

I remember reading recently that the shovels offered by those trusty names like Ames, etc., were all now made in China and are too long to fit in the Pioneer racks. I'll dig around in a bit and see if I can find that article.

I keep this info on tools that fit in the Pioneer rack on a piece of paper in my wallet so when I'm out and about and run across tools I know what to look for;

Name Description
Axe, Single Bit 4 lb head, 36.5 in. long
Shovel, Hand Round-point D-handle, Fed Spec GGG-S-326 Type IV, class A, style 1, size 2, 10”W x 12”L Round Point, 26”-28”Long, 17”-21” Handle Lift.
The overall length could run 34 3/4" to 36 1/4"
Handle, Mattock 36 in. long
Mattock, Pick Head W/o handle 5 lb. 19.5 in. long

Thanks for the help, we ordered a new rack off of EBay last night. The $40 cost is FAR cheaper than sending this to my welder for hours of rework, on mine the angle iron frame is wavy and the mounts for the pickax head are pretty much gone.

As for the tools, the ax is pretty much a standard single bit ax, I used an old one I had lying around, and bought a new one for the shop, the pickax head and handle are standard, so I bought a new head and handle and used an old one for the rack, and the shovel came from the local farmers COOP and I just shortened the handle by a few inches to fit properly.

And since they are painted up nice in OD, when we need tools with the truck, we grab them out of the shop...
