Stainless Steel bolt on my hand brake

I was adjusting my hand brake and decided that the 1/4" adjusting screw should be replaced. The grade 5 and grade 8 bolts at my local shop were not threaded along their whole length, and the threads didn't go far enough. So having to choose between standard steel and stainless steel I went with stainless.

How often do people use stainless fasteners on their trucks?

Should I have held out until I found grade 5 or 8?

I'll use stainless steel every time I can if it is not a fatigue critical part. Also make sure you are NOT getting involved in the electrochemical issues between dissimilar metals (Abscissa vs. Ordinate).

If the stainless bolt is the same grade then it might be ok, on a handbrake all components are considered critical to a vehicles safe function and should be replaced with the correct specification part, I don't know what the stainless bolts specifications are but they MUST meet or exceed the original bolts specifications, if not, get the right part and make the job outcome one you can be 100% confident in...

Running the correct dye down the bolt would extend the threads as well.
