1 wire 12 volt reg

I am converting to 12 volt with a new harness ,my question is ,how is the 1 wire alternator wired,does on 10 guage wire go to the starter,and is there a second wire going to the ignition,I am new at this,I have all new lights 12 volt coil and battery with new cables ,need to know what wires go where to get it started.

Without any pictures I'm responding based on how I did mine: my 1-wire alternator goes straight to the positive post on my 12v starter. There is also a "jumper" wire going from the single alternator post to the two tang (right is the correct tang) "B" terminal on the alternator (mine is a GM alternator, but follow me) which is the "exciter" or "step up" wire. Without this the alternator voltage will not "kick up" enough to charge your batteries.
