Towbar or Trailer? A Penny For Your Thoughts.

I only use my medium tow bar to haul people out of the woods. They have to disconnect their drive shafts first, though. I wouldn't flat tow with it on a paved road because there are just too many things that can go wrong, and then nobody is happy. Once I get someone to a paved road, they get to call the the real tow truck people. Tow truck people up here usually won't go out in the woods to rescue you.

Again I thank all of you for the info.
I know all about the axle ratings and the Mfg requirements to provide a GVW & GVWR. My truck is a 1 ton dually with a class 5 hitch, 2.5 inch receiver. My biggest problem is finding a trailer with the wheels set far enough forward. Everyone around here puts the axles clear to the rear of the trailer so with the truck loaded on forward all the weight would be on the tongue. That's why I've started looking at tilt trailers. The tandems are closer to the center line of the trailer. Being an over the road truckdriver I know how to load my wagon. I just need to find the right one.
I called Hudson and they simply told me to call a dealer. Closest Hudson dealer is 400 miles away. I'm in no hurry, just getting the ball rolling. I'll find a trailer or like I said before one will find me! I just want to be able to haul any of my equipment on the same trailer. That way I can downsize my fleet.

why is gooseneck out with a 1ton dually? Just out of curiosity. Seems like it's much easier to find a trailer with the gooseneck that fits requirements and it isn't too hard/expensive to put the hitch in.

Right now my trailer budget is maxed out. The goose-neck & 5th hitch trailers are more money and then add the extra expense of another hitch and I'm spending more than I'm comfortable with at this time. I set a "top dollar" amount and will not exceed my $$$ limit.

fair enough, also means you have a more diverse trailer for other vehicles. Best of luck with your search, I'm sure being out where you are makes the pickings a bit slimmer...

I would also trailer it unless it is an emergancy or very short distance.

I towed my first M37 home behind a deuce and a half, and when making a turn, the M37 decided it wanted to keep going straight. My deuce almost tipped over, if I hadn't steered a little out of the turn and tapped the brakes.

As it appears the consensus is here...I'd rather trailer. Granted I've only tow-barred a deuce with a deuce not an M-37, but...

Hey Crew.
The decision has been made to purchase a new heavy-duty 14k trailer. I've been fearful of spending a lot of money on "big ticket" items, but I've came to realize I'm tired of being afraid of what "might happen". I'll be "60" next month so I guess I'll call it a "B-Day" wagon.

We are leaving early tomorrow morning for Nebraska to haul home a "water-buffalo" & a "fuel-pup" I managed to buy while on the road. My Buddy wants the water tank and I ain't got a clue what I'll do with the fuel trailer but at least they won't be junked.
