M37B1 Riverboat Cruise

Post by HingsingM37 »

Hello Gang,

Well Ohio got hit hard yesterday with weather. My wife Mary got home around three to find the basement filling up. Days of rain have left the ground saturated and it was coming in faster than the sump pumps could take it out. The pumps were burdened as the backflow was heavy. There was simply nowhere left for the water to go. I left work early to get home, my normal 25' commute was an hour fifteen. Flooded roadways and stalled cars made it a nightmare. Why people in small cars try to drive through two feet of water and then get stranded is beyond me.
I arrived home to find 4-6" of water in the basement. The rain had finally stopped and I turned the overheated pumps off, the neighbor had two feet of water in his front yard. I had to wait for the waters to receed so the basement could be emptied. The sun came out, I told the wife there is nothing we can do right now, lets get in the M and drive about to observe the flood damage and see if we could help anyone. Down the road there were some folks in a mobile home completely surrounded by water, they seemed content to sit on the front porch with some Buds so I did not offer a rescue  . We drove into the valley, it was like the M was a boat, driving through a foot or two of water. It was a blast. Pics start here in my album:

We got home after an hour to find the waters recessed, I fired the pumps up and the basement was empty in about a half hour, I thank God we did not loose power, that would have been real ugly.

Hi David,

I'm glad to hear that you had no major damage from the water. We just had those monsoon rains here a couple of days ago.
I modified your post to include the pictures.

Bert

The M looks right at home in the water. :D

Thanks guys. Alot of folks down my way had it much worse. We are lucky it was only rain water, many folks in the city of Barberton next door to us wound up with basements being complety flooded with municipal sewage. Down the road a car dealership had 6 feet of water and the road is still closed.

Joe, how did the West Side do?
