Anybody Repopping Brake Light Switch ?

Post by w30bob »

Hi Guys,

When I was at Aberdeen I ran across a guy selling repop'd headlight foot dimmer switches. They looked great except they didn't have a part number on them. I asked if anyone was making the Douglas connector brake light switch that mounts on the master cylinder and he didn't know. I haven't found many out there either used or NOS, so I'm wondering if any of you guys are aware of anyone repopping the brake light switch. I know John lists them on his website.......but they are EXPENSIVE. If anyone knows a source for new or reasonably priced used ones give a shout out.

thanks,
bob

I've got the dimmer switch that Kevin Emdee was selling, it was fiddy bucks and included the connectors I needed three Douglas lines. I think Kevin passed away last year, could be wrong?

I've got a couple part numbers on my list here...not exactly what you are looking for (non-military) but I figured I'd throw them out there...

Hi pwrwagonfire,

Thanks, I've seen that type of switch before....actually that's what's on my AF M37' master cylinder, but it's not connected to any wiring. So I'm assuming if you use that type of switch you make a small 2-wire harness that connects to the switch....which has one wire going to a douglas connector or the M37 harness....and the second wire just ties into the frame right there to act as the ground?

thanks,

No grounds on the brake light switch :!: :!:

Both wires go into the headlight switch for selection of service or blackout, and on to the directional handle unit.

What, pray tell, is "repopping"? :?

If you are referring to a reproduction item, it would be "repRopping", no?

"Repo" is something a finance company does when you miss too many car payments.

Hi PoW,

I haven't actually seen the Douglas connector brake light switch that is supposed to be on the M37, but I assumed it was a single wire connector. So you're saying the switch is actually a double wire Douglas connector and the mating connector on the wiring harness is also a double.

A "repop" is a reproduction part. I didn't invent it, but it's widely used in the restoration industry. Now "repo" I think we all understand.

If anyone has the correct M37 brake light switch that screws into the master cylinder.....can you post a pic of it?

thanks,

Very weird, it would not let me attach it to a new post, but the edit went through?

Hi Bruce,

What you've got pictured, the twin post switch, is for the earlier WC series, which used the same master cylinder as the M37. The switch for the M37 should be a waterproof Douglas Connector to connect to the Douglas connector on the wiring harness. John has a pic of it on Midwestmil.com, but he wants like $90 for it. It's probably a pretty hard part to find, as I believe it was only used on the M37 master cylinder. That's why I was hoping somebody reproduced it. :(

Thanks,
bob
