Serviced old 201010909 and took it for a run.

Post by Carter »

Took the M for a ride today after doing some maintenance, oil change, greased those ten thousand zerks and other stuff the manual recommends as well as installing the new front turn signal amber doors that my buddy w30bob gave me.. :D thanks Bob.

This is the first I have been able to do any thing to it the first of the year due to my back problems. Drove it about 10 miles and all is well with it, ran like a champion but has developed a flutter when idling... don't know what's up with that but will investigate tomorrow. Glad to get back to the M and will soon be taking it on a 35 mile drive to it's new home in Pennsylvania.

Thanks for looking guys. Carter

Carter,

I never did ask you......what is the color of your truck? I mean is it OD 2430 semi-gloss (supposedly correct for 1950-56) or is it OD 24087 (supposedly correct for 1968-74)? Or maybe something else. I'm just trying to see what an M looks like in 2430.

thanks,
bob

I used Gillespie 24087 semi-gloss OD listed as Vietnam to present which I bought in gallons to spray with my old Binks model 29 gun that I have owned for nearly 50 years. The reason I used 24087 is because my truck was rebuilt at Letterkenny Arsenal in 1968 and repainted with that shade of paint, when I compared the trucks paint with Gillespie's paint chips it was the only one that matched.

Thanks Gary, it needs a bath but yesterday was spent doing maintenance on the old girl and figured washing her would have to be done another day. About the lenses, I have wanted amber ones for a long time but never could locate a NOS set and thanks to Bob I finally have them, good guy that Bob. :D

Hey Bert, thanks man, I finally have the truck looking the way I want it to look, except for the accumulated dust from sitting for the past half year while I was dealing with back trouble. I think today is clean-up day having finished the chores on my "honey-do list"

I have been told the amber lenses were stock on a Gama Goat just like the full red round tail light ones were but I have no proof of that and I can not remember what the Goat front looked like, been a long time since I saw one in service.

Hi Guys,

I think Carter's right about these doors being used on the Gamma Goat. Most of the pics of the Gamma I find on the internet have newer HumVee lights mounted, but a few pics showing them in service back in the day have these doors on them. If anyone is interested in getting some doors here's the link.

And here's a listing for the complete light assemblies;
