which bolts?

Hi guys. I'm well into re-assembly on my M (after a decade or so hiatus) and need to know which bolts attach the troop seat upper brackets to the bed side. Mine were missing so I have nothing to go on and haven't been able to find a pic anywhere. Am I correct that it should be a thin headed bolt with square washers on each side? If anyone has a good shot I'd appreciate you posting it. I'm also wondering how the bed bow straps on the bed side should be mounted and stowed. I can't figure out how Carter got his to look like they do in the well known pic of his fine truck. Thanks for any help.

Not sure if I understand correctly, are you asking about attaching the lazy back rests into the stake pockets or the bottom braces for the timber seat boards. I used 3/8" X 24tpi grade 8 bolts with self locking nuts and no washers when attaching the lower folding bottom brackets. The lazy back uprights were bolted into the pockets with galvanized 1/4" carriage bolts which replaced the old rusty ones installed when the truck went thru a LEAD rebuild. I believe elevator bolts may have been used originally but am not certain of that.

Hi Guys,

Carter....I think he means the bolts that actually hold the hinged troop seat brackets to the bed sides. Here are pics of the bolts on my 52. Can't say they are original for sure, but they are consistent side to side in terms of markings and the fact that only the bottom bolt has a star lockwasher under the head.

Bob, they look almost like the bolts I used except for the grade hash marks on mine and my using self locker nuts.

Thanks guys. Bob, those are the bolts I'm talking about, but from the head stamp on yours I don't think they're original. I think I may have the correct ones but I'm just trying to confirm that. I'd like to get the right ones in there if I can since it's such a visible spot. Carter, the straps I'm talking about are mounted through a bracket on the outside of the bed side below the bed rail-they don't seem to be present in the pic you posted here, but they are one the shot that was in the Military Vehicles calendar a few years ago and that they offer as wallpaper. They have a sewn loop that the bracket goes through before mounting to the box side-1 per side. If I could get a pic posted I would but have been unsuccessful in the past and haven't taken the time to get that figured out. Thanks again.
