Transmission questions

So I have an early style 4spd in my 53, the obvious upgrade would be a 420 that's properly refurbed, but I'm looking for more synchros and the possibility of an OD 5th gear (not an absolute necessity). Will a 435 or 465 swap in with minor modification? I'm asking this from a drivability stand point. My thinking is that once I get the 53 to VA after regearing the axles in FL, the ability to downshift into 2nd would be helpful in Norfolk traffic.
