Guess I'm once again the bubble popper. Hate to see buyer's get burned.

NOS joints have cork grease seals around the cups, they will be far and away deteriorated since 1970 right in the sealed box. $40 is more costly than 2 current production joints that have nitrile seals and will far out last NOS ones.

Purchasing anything NOS that has any type of oil/grease seal, insulation such as wiring, rubber materials such as hoses, especially brake or any hoses that must hold pressure, gasket kits that have cork components, brake components, or brake component rebuild kits, etc. is a bad move. It is literally flushing $$ down the drain. Do not let that familiar line "NOS still sealed in the box" fool you; you are getting burned, plain and simple.

Charles,

Thanks for posting that. That's the kind of info that's just not obvious or out there and easy to find. I really wouldn't have thought much about the old NOS U-Joints being affected by age. And don't feel too bad Wes....I'm sure I've got a few of those same paperweights on my shelf as well. :D Now I just have to dig them out and mark "Do Not Use" on their boxes, as I'll forget what Charles said in about 2 days.

Charles.....keep those words of experience coming!!!

regards,
bob

Fellows, just for the record; notice I told nobody not to use these joints. I only stated that they had a down side for 2 reasons. #1, the seals are age old technology that has been much improved over the years. #2 Cork seals in these joints is especially vulnerable to age deterioration. If the truck just sits in a garage as some do, it is doubtful it will sling a u-joint. If the truck is used, even for Sunday afternoon drives; if a shower comes up, water will get into the joints from road spray because the seals are not up to par. You can imagine what water & debris will be taken on if you drive on the trail; or if you can't imagine, you will become enlightened after you inspect as many of these joints as we have. With cost of a current production premium Precision joint being very reasonable, for me, common sense kicks in, but that is just me and 1 person's opinion. Feel free to do as you may wish. Happy Motoring.

Wes,
Thanks for posting your for sale items here rather than elsewhere.

Charles,
As always, thanks for your words of wisdom.

I just thought I'd interject those two things. I appreciate it when people try to sell things here before they turn to outer outlets and I appreciate when folks take the time to pass on their accumulated knowledge. Some may agree with the opinions that are stated, others will disagreement, but I like to see it all presented so I can choose to take away from it what I will.

This is exactly the way I intended what I wrote; certainly not telling anyone how to spend their dollar; after all it is their $$.
