Weird Radiator Hose Outlet

Post by w30bob »

Hi Guys,

I saw this M37 radiator for sale on Epay and the top hose outlet looks weird.....it's oval, not round where it goes into the radiator. Anyone ever seen one like this before?

regards,
bob

My WC-51 has an outlet like that but on the other side. Possibly a transition model?

Hi Phillip,

I wouldn't say "transition", but probably an early '51 model. I say that because in TM 9-2320-212-20P it shows this radiator (with the oval tube) in the illustration........and most of the illustrations in this pub are from very early on. There are some other weird things in the pub, such as showing the wiper motors as Folberth style and not the S-813 style. So I guess some things changed between the time the pubs were made and when the trucks rolled off the line.....and then other changes occured in production. But who really knows......too much about the M37 has been lost to history I guess.

take care,
bob

I bet you're correct Bob. My 51 has that style of an outlet. What do the later M-37 outlets look like?

The above photo is of an original M37 radiator.

The ones that have the round thin brass inlets and outlets are a very cheaply made replacement unit. They are nowhere near the quality of the original Dodge product.

Thanks Charles, I was wondering if I had one of the early models but you have answered that.

Thanks Gary,

That picture is from early last year when I got it back from the radiator shop.

Yup....your right Charles. I looked at my '52 and it's the same as the one in the pic, with the ovalized tube. I guess the ones I've seen for sale at the meets are the cheapo replacements.
