Electric fuel pump
I would like to install an electric pump, only to be used in times of vapour lock, or priming.
Can anyone offer me types, should it be mounted near the tank or up front, what kind of pressure.

G'day Bruce.........
I have a spare one here but 12V I think, they are usually plumbed in at the rear, near the fuel line joiner above the rear axle using a splitter block and mounted on the crossmember. Almost any accessory type 4 psi regulatable pump will do, solenoid ones are good but tick a lot, the smaller "transformer" looking ones off light trucks will suit you cost and voltage-wise.

Here the elec (backup) pump/filter setup that I put in my 37, as you can see it was mounted back by the fuel tank., What was great was that there was a union at the fuel line right there so I did not have to cut it. As mentioned 4 psi is recommended but mine was a 7psi Walbro 24v pump with a universal marine fuel filter ( 12micron ). I wasn't worried about it being 7psi as I only wanted it for priming but I did leave it on for 2 hrs during a parade where I was pulling a helicoptor full of veterans and she kept trying to vapor lock (and would have if not for the elec pump)

You may want to look into a Walbro 24V 4psi pump (I've forgotten the model number) - you can get them from a marine (boat - that is) dealer - in the US that is, not sure about your neck of the woods.

This item states self regulating, wouldn't this be enough. i have just been looking at marine/Walbro applications, they are extremely expensive.M-Thrax wrote:The facet will work, I would recomend putting a pressure regulator on it also.
All i am after is a standby unit if and when i get fuel vapour lock, maybe once or twice a year, I know the Walbro product is a premium product, but i feel it is for a more high performance application going off all the adverts i have just seen.

My WC-21 came with a small facet like the one your lookig at only 6v. The previous owner removed the mechanical pump and only used the facet, he ran it for several years that way. You can alway add a regulator down the road ( no pun) if you feel its needed. The ETW1 carb is rated at 4.5psi, my walbro put out 7psi but I only used it for priming and when she looked like she was heading for vapor lock.

My truck is stock 24volt, but i do have a step down transformer to 12v, so i guess that opens the door for me to choose.
Like i said i will be retaining the stock mechanical pump, and like you say only us the electric one if heading towards vapour lock or priming.
If i buy one that pumps out about 4psi, that should cover my needs, plusi'll put in a in line filter.
