Reverse gear light/mode switch

Post by Monkey Man »

Ok, did a search after I posed the question in the overdrive thread, has anyone fitted a reverse light or reverse control mode (same thing) switch to their gearbox and if so, pictures please.......

I'm just going to add a switch under the dash that turns on a "backup" circuit complete with lights, camera and alarm :D

If I remember correctly, the later Power Wagons (1965 -68 or so) had backup lights. I believe the later NP420 tranny top would interchange with the later style M37 tranny, and if you had one from the later Power Wagon, it would have the backup light switch all set up.

You don't need no stinkin' back up lights! That's what your assistant driver is for. The assistant driver (or driver's assistant) gets out to guide the driver and make sure everything is O.K. to back up. :D

In the military you were never supposed to drive these things alone. Period.

Bert,

You're right .....my bad. MM.....you SHOULD have back up lights...no doubt it gets really really dark over there!

And never mind 52-M42....you drive that thing alone whenever you want. Once your backup lights are hooked up, that is.

Ha-Ha.....good fun.

Well, I figure seeing as I have a badass Tank headlight as a backup light it should be used often and automatically, technically you guys are right, nothing like a pair of eyes behind the vehicle to be sure you don't stuff up and I don't need no steenking backup light, a regular one anyhow but when you have a light like mine you just have to "make the statement" that it's there!!
I also have those worklights to hook back up, not just worklights, Tough as nails M37 worklights made from blackout markers, dammit, I had better get my arse into gear and get things happening on the truck, I have been too slack of late...

MM :D

For those that do not know what I am talking about on the lights

That is one gorgeous truck, MM! I fall in love with it all over again every time I see pictures of it! You did an incredible job on it.

BTW, how much does it weigh with all that extra steel?

P.S. I thought those lights on the back were to persuade people who were high beaming you on the road at night to modify their behavior. My mistake. :P

No too much at all, the skin is 1.6mm Aluminium, the frame is medium wall RHS tubing so I think it only adds between 100 and 150 Lb to the overall top of the vehicle but once fitted out will add a little more. I wanted to keep the CG down low so opted for aluminium over black , galv seal or sinc seal steel, it would have been easier to build if I had used steel but I liked the riveted look so aluminium with sikaflex and rhs framing was the economical and lightweight way to go.....

Believe me Bob, not a problem you want to get the tablets I take, hopefully things are coming right now, looks like I might have had a thyroid "out of balance" and a relatively?? short course (6? months) might have things back in check and the bonus is I finish the beta blockers this weekend, that should stop me bleeding all over the place from simply knocking a bit of paint off myself....

Chris, Try this thread and I can post more pics as requested: http://www.g741.org/PHPBB/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5302
