Whats being used to replace the washers that go under the screws to hold the cover down? They look like a rubber type of washer to stop gas leaking up through the screw.
Thanks,

Don't know what was original. I used Yamabond on the sealing gasket and small fiber washers under the screw heads. Worked fine for me.

Wayne,
Is Yamabond used along with the rubber gasket or only if no gasket. Where do you get the fiber washers? Napa?

I believe that they are lead. I have a pile of them around here someplace.

They are indeed lead. I used lead roof flashing that was of the same thickness and just cut new washers out with a gasket punch. Just turn down the screws slowly as the soft lead tears easily. If you have trouble cutting the lead washers out with a gasket cutter, you can always sandwich the lead between filament tape to add reinforcement while cutting. The lead flashing / lead sheet material is available at some hardware stores but certainly any good roofing supply store will have it.

Re: Fuel tank pickup/cover
I ordered one of these from VPW late last year, and it came with a cork gasket for underneath...FWIW I replaced the screws with allen head screws, to make the unit easier to get out when its bolted underneath the body.
ALSO, as a side note: the VPW fuel pickup for the gas tank doesn't have a screen on the end (my original one did), and doesn't have a vent line hookup...pretty disappointed that it didn't.
