Winter has decended on the northeast and unfortunately, my truck has to sit outside. I wanted to preserve my canvas as much as possible, so I was going to remove my cargo cover and side rails for the winter. After removing the cover and bows, I decided to leave the side rails on and make an abbreviated cover instead.
I also wanted to protect the canvas top and hood from the elements. All those hold down brackets and the cowl vent area are so prone to rust. This is a daily driver so I wanted something I could put on and take off easily. A full truck cover would be too heavy, especially when covered with snow. So, I made up this cover. It hooks behind the top and attaches at the front with bungie cords. It takes about a minute to put on. No more window scraping too!
Charlie......don't fret brother....you're not the only one who keeps his M outside. Mine isn't a daily driver....doesn't drive at all right now......but she still needs to be protected. I like the heavy vinyl tarps because the snow just slides right off if you touch it. The cheaper tarps that shred in 6 months just suck...but the thicker ones are ok.
Bert,
West Virginia has the highest average elevation of any eastern state. Even though we are below the Mason Dixon line, it is a long cold winter. My next task is a paint job, but that will have to wait for spring. Bob is right. You need a good quality tarp to stand up to long term storage through long winter weather. I just wanted something I could cover the essentials with and still get on and off easily.
