Does anyone have one of the dash primers?

Post by Caldwelljj0 »

Does anyone have one of the cold weather in-dash fuel primers on their truck? How do you use it and how is it plumbed into the fuel line/carb? Pics would be great.

I have one on my truck. It is plumbed and working.

I am glad to post pics of it if you would like, but you will have to send me a PM with your email because I can not post pictures to this site.

Let me know what part(s) of the system you would like to see. The engine and cab are pretty clean so nothing will be hidden by grease/dirt build up.

Let me know.

52 M-42,
Have you been able to upload pictures to the M37 Pics Gallery at the top of this page? If you have, shoot me a PM with your name in the gallery and I will try to help you with posting pictures.

We all like to see pictures. :D

I have a gallery under Storm Stevenson but can't get any pictures to upload. I don't have any problem on Steel Soldiers adding pictures to posts but for some reason I am just not able to do it here.

RMS sent me a set of directions but I haven't had time recently to play around with it.

I sent pics to w30bob, mix4coal and caldwelljj0. I can send them to you too, Bert, if you would like.

Just let me know.

When I got my 51 it had the pump but not hooked up. I'll look at the photos you mentioned. Could you give a description of the plumbing? Like 1. from the pump 1/4 steel line to the fuel filter... so on I would appreciate it Thanks Ed

I looked for the photos and the folder was empty. Could you send me a few photos of the installation? Thanks Ed

Here's my first attempt at posting pics via photobucket and RMS's directions. It took me awhile this afternoon to get all this straightened out. RMS's directions were great! He obviously knew his audience, and does a great job writing directions for the electronically illiterate!

So if you find these photos helpful, thank RMS!

Primer Pump Installation / Routing Photos

I've set these photos up so that we start at the dash with the primer pump handle and end at the manifold terminations.

The next three pictures are photos of the area under the dash. They are a little disorienting (sorry) but, being old and fat, coupled with the fact that the heater and defroster take up a lot of space, it is tough to get good clear pictures under there.

These pictures (the next seven) are of the lines as the emerge into the engine compartment. The smaller copper line (the one on the right) is the output line that goes to the manifold. The thicker line from the fuel filter is the input line to the pump. My installation deviates from the stock installation because I've installed a cut off valve between the fuel filter and the primer pump.

Here the small copper line to the manifold starts to dive down toward the underside of the rear end of the intake manifold (next seven photos). The first T spray nozzle is installed at about a 45 degree angle with the upper output line from this nozzle pointed toward the center of the intake manifold where the second T spray nozzle is located.

These are the best pics (four photos) I could get of the center T spray nozzle and the forward L spray fitting.

I need to reroute the input line away from the heater valve at the rear of the engine. I'll probably do that next spring (maybe sooner).

The system works great as it is however. I seldom use it now because the truck and trailer live in a heated garage with a concrete floor (heat is in the floor).

Still a nice option to have, in my opinion (even if I don't live in an area that gets very cold :D )

Thanks, RMS for all your help! It never would have happened without your help!

Storm,

Outstanding pictures sir, I've saved all of them so that I'm prepared when I get to that point.

No, I didn't make them; I just didn't install them correctly. I have to go back and revisit all those manifold nuts & washers to make sure the torque is correct. The nuts and washers did not get put on properly last time.

It's just another one of those "little things" that always needs to be done.

It's why these things are never "done".

Thanks for the offer. I found a complete NOS kit from Midwest Military, so I am going to work with that. I hope this solves this longstanding problem.
