Sorry Gerry......I'm clueless when it comes to wiring directionals. It's one of those things I figure I'll learn when I need to.....but right now I'm not even close to that stage with my M. I'm sure the guys on here can help you out. You might want to start a new thread as some might not be looking into this one. If no one can help I do know the name of a guy in Canada whom I bought a bunch of harness from that is well versed in modifying harnesses for things like directionals, etc......so he might be able to help. Let me know if you come up blank on this one and I'll get you his info.
You will need it depending on whether you got the newer solid state flasher with the harness or not. If you have the signal lever where the harness connects to the back and has a 3-pin connector on the other end of the harness, you will probably be better off getting a solid state flasher as it will be way easier to wire in. If you have the lever that is pictured above, you'll need this flasher. Does it work? You'll have to wire it up together so there is a load on it for the flasher to work. If it doesn't, it may be the flasher unit/module inside. I'd recommend you open it up before you hook it up just to familiarize yourself with what it looks like.
There is some troubleshooting in the Change 8 of TM 9-8030 for the turn signals. Like Cal_Garry said, you'll find a multimeter pretty handy getting turn signals to work. I think Wes Knettle posted some instructions somewhere back on wiring these. If you can't find it, I'm sure I have a copy of Wes' diagram somewhere.
