Toughest task on your M37?

I think getting the big three to line up is my toughest task: TIME, FUNDS and MOTIVATION. I often have two of the three but rarely all at once.

Probably the most fun task is finding that one part you needed for a good price.

removing the rear bumperets.

Ya know this stuck in my head because I knew I had this job coming as part of my resto and sure enough there are an awful lot of bolts holding them puppies on! the brackets on each side dosent help getting the wrenches in there either. being in the back of the truck they of coruse catch the road spray and like to rust. shoulders and cheater bar sure got a workout yesterday!

For me it was the rear axle pinion seal (the first time, second time it came right out). Ended up taking 5 hours with various chisels, pullers, hammers, pry bars and a Dremel tool with many cut off disks. Lots of care, too, as not to damage the axle housing. That's to date, we'll have to see if anything down the road changes my opinion.

Well I now have a tough decision to make: to keep the truck intact this winter hoping for a light snow season (and I live on a mountain top) so I can tear down the truck and refurb the front half body parts in my basement, or keep it intact and get better brakes on it in case I need it to get to work, as my daily driver is 2wd....
