Remember, in order for the bid to go that high, there was a second person willing to pay almost that much!!!

His book has been in the $750 + range for a while on Amazon. I have no idea why. I just don't see any or enough information in that book to justify the price.

Oh, well, just another weird fact of internet life in the U.S.

David,

I saw that listing yesterday and figured it was a typo by the lister. Then I looked at what else he had for sale and sorted by Highest Price First. I was blown away at what he was asking for a good number of books. Obviously surfing for fools.....lots do it.

I spoke to David Ahl this Spring at the Sussex MTA meet about the price of his book and restoring M37s in general. He was amazed at what his book was selling for and was a bit bummed out by it. He told me he's working on having his M37 Resto book reprinted, but it would only be on CD this time. Hopefully I'll catch up with him at the MTA meet this coming Spring and see what progress he's making.

So if anyone is thinking about spending thousands for his book.....just wait a bit longer....it's on it's way for a much cheaper price!!!

regards,
bob

Personally is it me but I have never owned the book but I had read the articles that were printed in MVM and I remember them being not that good. I think I stopped reading when the civie tires when on.

I think I gave that book to my youngest brother. Its in rough shape but wow... I know its not worth that much. I think I paid $25 for it back when I was in highschool and even then felt like that was a bit much.

I think Dave would be dissapointed in that sort of bidding, he knows what his book was worth and priced it accordingly at $25, what's the big deal about this book anyway?? I have a copy as I was sent one from a member here, it's a good read with some interesting stuff in there but not a "MUST HAVE" Publication by any means and I don't think David ever meant it to be. It just proves the point that the Internet is truly a bizarre place sometimes...

My take; Some folks are flat out too lazy to do a search for the info, and then weigh the information gathered. Or, they just have more money than brains. JMO. And my M37 is close to being finished and never needed that book, so I guess I'm 1K ahead :D

I've got an autographed copy that Dave sent me way back in 2000/2001, some day I might let it go for a grand or two?

Obviously looking for a sucker at Christmas time who doesn't know what the book should cost versus their asking price. I got mine from Dave himself for $18 plus tax, right after I got my M37 in 2004. Still have it, too, has limited reference value although the parts prints save time hunting down part numbers.

There's just too many other sources for M37 info these days. Not to mention the volumes of info on g741.
Why not spend $1000 ON your M37 instead of a book that has marginal value to the restorer?
$1000 goes a long way on an engine rebuild but the same amount gives you a book. (?)
Mon always said that I was never the sharpest knife in the drawer but even I know enough not
to buy the book at anywhere near $1K. Ya' can't fix stupid.
