Carb problem?

Hi guys,
I've got a weird problem, my '53 which ran well about 3 months ago will not start now. I checked the usual , spark and gas to the carb, the plugs were dry so no flooding I guess, the carb bowl had gas in it and the float valve seems to function properly. On a hunch I removed the drain plug from the bottom of the air cleaner elbow and out poured gas! How did gas get into the elbow from the carb? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Never knew what caused it but I also had a no start situation with one of the M37s I owned years ago and like you gas had collected in the elbow which I believe was causing a rich air/fuel mix which would not allow it to start. Once the accumulation was drained and plugs cleaned it started. I know you stated the plugs were dry as were mine but I felt cleaning any oil or fuel film might also help, didn't hurt since it did run afterward. Never did figure out where the excess fuel was coming from. Hope this might be of some help to you.

I didn't get a chance to clean the plugs yet, maybe this weekend. The mystery deepens.

My float level was just a bit off (too high), and filled my elbow up as well. At first I thought the needle valve was stuck but it was brand new along with the spring, so I suspected the float and sure enough it was, and I had to adjust it a couple of times to get it just right.
