1) Where does one procure a 4:89 ring and pinion for the front diff?
2) I plan on swapping in a 4bt. What if anything do I need to do to the front springs to accommodate the diesel engine?

I just bought a disassembled M37 from MikeOneSix and I have a few newbie questions:

1) Which manuals are absolutely necessary to get the frame, axles, and body back together?
2) What is the paint code for OD for a 1954 M37 and where can I buy it?
3) How can I research the history of my truck? Are there any sources that describe branch and unit?

Welcome aboard Bill! The tech manuals are linked up top; I use TM9-8030 a lot for adjustments and such; TM9-2320-212-20 is the organizational maintenance manual that a lot of data. Not listed, but helpful to some is the "M37 Restoration guide" by David Ahl-out of print and critically reviewed a number of times on this forum. It has a number of pictures that could assist and some other data, but few here would call this guide a "must have".
'54 paint code I do not recall-mine is primarily the 'Nam semi gloss 24087 by Gillespie paint, sold by Mark Dodd at Rapco, and some other vendors I can't recall at the moment.
Truck history will be tough unless you have the bumper markings intact (or can sand down to them)-even then it will be questionable.
I'm sure some of our forum mates will also chime in-best of luck with your reassembly!

Bill. You can also get Gillespie Paints from Army Jeep Parts in PA. https://www.armyjeepparts.net/ Depending on where you live and save on shipping. I have a 54 also and used There AJP color which is the same as 23070 on her. As for the manuals I would get them on a CD. This way you can print out the pages you need for what your going to work on and not worry about greasing up a hard cover manual...
