M-11 that's exactly what I would like to do. They are just hard to find down south. Tanner yea I've heard bad things about broadway as well. I bought an old car from Alabama once with no title just had a bill of sale. The DMV here had a form for and some paperwork I did for an Alabama car that never was titled. That was easy! Lol. To bad I didn't buy the m37 from Alabama. If this truck was never titled I could do those same steps. But being titled in who knows name is the problem..... I'll go back to the DMV in the next couple of weeks and try to explain again about the serial numbers. I'll ask for there supervisor.

Hi Matt,

I hear ya about parting your M37........I can't part things either. I have friends who do it all the time, and usually make money, but I just couldn't bring myself to tearing something good apart. Before I bought my M I searched online for how to title a military vehicle and found out pretty quick it wouldn't be fun, if at all possible. Seems from what I read it wasn't that hard a few years ago.....but not now. And it won't be getting any easier in the future.

A couple of thoughts for you........first, before you part it consider selling it as is. Although many people won't buy an M without a title there are still a good number of people out there who will. Many people use them on farms, etc, and others use them in 4WD events. I've seen decent trucks without titles sell for way more than you got tied up in yours. Keep an eye on the "completed auctions" on Ebay for M37s that sell and you'll see what I mean. I'd also list it on Craig's List if you decide to go that route. I also believe MVPA has a classified section.

Speaking of MVPA, are you a member? Reason I ask is if you are those folks might be able to shed more light on how to get your M titled. I joined a few months ago and I got a call from a real live person (I think it was the president of MVPA) saying if I ever needed any help with my military vehicle to give him a call directly. I may still have that message somewhere, so if you're not a member let me know and I'll try to find his number so you can pick his brain. Just tell him I told you to call (wink, wink). There may be other MVPA members in your state that could help you out too. And of course you should look thru the registry on this site to find other M37 owners in your state. I think you can search the registry by state....I think?

In regards to my initial comment about the muscle car fraud case.....yeah, I realize you aren't faking a Hemi Cuda......but in the eyes of a judge it won't matter. People tend to get emotional over this stuff......I wasn't implying you were trying to defruad anyone.......heck, if the guy I bought my M from didn't end up getting the title for me I'd be the one writing this post, not you. So keep us up to speed on what you decide and how things are progressing. And I wish I could help you more.....as I'm sure the rest of the guys on this site do also.

Matt:

Have you considered 'selling' the truck to a friend in a neighboring state with looser titling laws? Let them title it (you pay for it) in their name, then they 'sell' it back to you, you 'drag' it back home (if the other state requires it to be inspected before titling) - then you title it in Louisiana.

This SHOULD be a legitimate/legal way to do it, if there is a locale near you that titles older vehicles by Bill of Sale only.

OR.... some quick 'Google-Fu' reveals that Louisiana has a 'title by bond' process, as do many states. I have zero knowledge of this resource below, but it may be worth a phone-call to discuss the situation with them, and see if there is a legit resource to getting a title... >> http://www.bfbond.com/pages/title-for-bond.html

Food for thought...

Hi Matt,
I, too, was going to suggest the MVPA for assistance (nice job Bob)! They've helped a number of members get titled. And while we recognize your predicament and frustration, Carter and the rest of us are watching out for your best interests when it comes to a topic this sensitive.

Have you checked with any MVPA member in Louisiana for their DMV guidance? If you aren't an MVPA member let me know and I'll log in and find some contacts for you....

I've talked to the president of the MVPA for Louisiana a couple of times. He's actually who I bought my truck bed from. I havent joined because the closest member is about 3 hours from me. But I have the paperwork to join. Guess I could join anyways. I didn't think to call him and see if he had any helpful hints. Thanks for that idea. I'll give him a ring. I wasn't trying to ruffle anyone's feathers. I know you guys are trying to help. It's just a frustrating situation and it kind of frustrated me when I was accused of trying to do something illegal. Thats the last thing I was wanting to do. Sorry of it came across that way. I bought this truck as a gift for my grandfather. I'm restoring it for him and his health has not been the greatest lately. So I'm just kind of stressed about getting everything straight for him to have nothing to worry about. Thanks for the help and again sorry if I stirred up anyone. Next step is call the MVPA guy.

I did not say YOU were trying to do something illegal but was pointing out that using a title in that way was.

Since my comments caused you to be upset with me I am sorry I responded in a way which resulted in your frustration .

Nor from me Matt-all is ok. Nice that you're doing this for your grand dad-most of us sadly do not have that option due to age....
Please keep us posted on your title issue and your truck's progress.
Thanks,
Gary
