It's bikini (top) time!

Post by wvcharlie »

Last year we had discussed bikini tops and where to get them. I finally had a chance to make up a prototype for myself. I have road tested it and I am ready to offer them to anyone that would be interested. This top is made from Sunbrella brand acrylic canvas. This is the leading brand of material for boat covers and awnings. It is a lighter weight material than military grade cotton canvas but very tough, water resistant and very little shrinkage. The top uses the existing rope channel. The rear has about a six inch drop to keep it in place and five heavy duty grommets to tie it down with. You can use rope but I used 15" rubber bungee cords . They do a good job of keeping it taut. The top takes about three minutes to put on and can be folded up small enough to fit easily under your seat. The color is a little lighter than OD canvas but if you are wanting to run a bikini top, you should not be worried about authenticity. I will offer these for $130.00 each shipping included to continental US. You can call me at my store, Tanner's Alley Leather at 1-800-393-0707 or email me at info@tannersalleyleather.com. I accept all major credit cards and Pay Pal. I have a few made up and can offer others delivered in a few weeks. Believe me, it makes for a much cooler ride.Image ImageImage

What are you using for the rear bow? Is it part of the kit or will you include directions?

I made my own rear bow from electrical conduit, but the top should fit the stock frame top bow. If you need this part I can probably make it up for and additional charge. I made a mistake on our phone number. It should be 1-888-393-0707 or 1-304-292-0707.

Is the conduit all one piece or 2 joined together?

Bruce,
I actually used three pieces of conduit. It is easier to bend and easier to store on the truck. It dissasembles in about a minute if you decide part way through a trip to get wild and go completely topless! I am not at my truck right now but I think the center straight section is about 43".

Hi Charlie,
Looks pretty cool!
I drove my M37 to a family reunion last weekend near Camden Maine, just over 250 miles each way. My older daughter was riding with me and we had the top down. Nice sunny day, about 200 miles into the trip she asked me to stop at a drugstore to get her some sunblock. I looked at her and she was bright red! She sure would have loved your top.
The truck ran like a top for the entire 525 mile round trip.
