Hi Guys can anyone help me. I have a brake tool that was used on cars, it looks like a scizzor with a "C". QUESTION: can I use this tool to pull back the brake shoe spring or do I need a stronger one? (for trucks) thanks VT

then that will work fine.

Using a brake spring tool makes servicing easier but you can get buy with channel locks
or a heavy duty hook pick.

Yo Vinny,

Just don't forget the safety glasses (or face shield). I used to use small Vise Grips to remove brake springs.....you wouldn't believe how fast those springs fly when the pliers slip off. :O)

Hi Vinny,

I won't be doing Graves Mntn. VT is a bit out of my travel range. I think the next Military show I'm going to is the Salute to Veterans at the Farmer's Museum in Montgomery, NY on Aug 18/19. They're supposed to have an M4 Sherman fight a StuG III Panzer. I don't know how good the vendors will be, or if there will be any M37 stuff.....but I'm a sucker for watching tanks move.

Then I think the next one that's close is Redball in September. I have links to both below. If you know of any others that are close (NY, NJ, PA, MD, VA area) please let me know.

I use vise grips and a big screwdriver as a lever against the vise grips and hub in order to remove the springs (wearing safety glasses).

I used that exact tool (brake spring pliers) when I put new shoes on my M-37...worked great.
