Non-Stock Spark Plug Wires

Looks like grandpa swapped the water proof plug wires for a more modern version. I didn't like they way this looked: the bottom of some of the distributor holes were rusty, and the only thing holding the plug wires to the distributor was the friction from the rubber boots. Some of the plug wires ends were also very rusty.

Given the price of the OEM waterproof wires, is there an alternative wire setup? Also, is the distributor cap an M37 inclusive or is there a replacement I can get at NAPA et al?

When I brought my project home it didnt have plug wires. I wasnt sure it would even turn over much less run. I had some heavly rusted off plugs and after I removed them I replace them with a cheap set and some make shift wires. I found out it did run. Now I save for some real plugs and wires

Rusty - what does the distributor end of your yellow wires look like? A solid strand of copper bent over? That's what I have...I'm wondering if there is a better solution.

Yes, Its only temp, I want to get the right plugs and wires later on. I see John over Midwest Military has the best price on the wire set 180.00

I got reading this thread, as I'm also saving for the "correct" wires, but I've read online that there are two sets available, one a cheaper immitation of the more expensive ones. Does anyone know how to tell the cheapies from the real ones? I haven't seen them side by side, so I'd like to know what to look for if I run across a set at a swap meet.

Interesting The ones over on Vintage Power Wagon 245.00 and the ones listed on Midwest 180.00 maybe the cheaper ones ?

I have seen some wire sets that lack the rubber covering over the braded metal that were offered as M series but are for MEP generator use, they are usually much less expensive but are not correct for M series vehicles like the M37.

Is anybody running non military plugs and wires on the M37 24 volt system with any success??

Rusty - I'm still running the wires shown in my picture with regular plugs. I upgraded to a pertronix ignition and new coil and electrically she runs fine.

I want a pertronix ingnition to replace my points one of these days.

Did you get from Vintage PW or the like or go directly to Pretronix? If the latter, whats the part number from Pertronix (if you remember)
