chevy small block
So my question is will it be possible to pair a chevy small block to a '53s np420? I ask because my 53s flat 6 is mostly dead (won't catch) and to be honest, I'm not trying to do a historic restoration, just get her running again. I've worked on ford and chevy v8s so I'd like to stay with those if at all possible. I eventually plan to swap the drive train, but would like to make her a driver again before I deploy
Re: chevy small block
no there isnt a way it will bolt together. have you run a compression check on the engine? maybe it just needs a tune up.? tune ups are less expensive than engine changes.
Re: chevy small block
And a whole lot less trouble and time-consuming
Re: chevy small block
Ditto the compression check first. Go through the fuel & ignition components. See what's wrong with what you have first...

I'll charge it again, and check, but my plans are to swap it out because of parts availability.
Re: chevy small block
some old vehicels parts are hard to find. not so with M37s. the 230 flathead parts are as easy to come by as anything else. it is one of the longest produced engines ever. even the russians copied it for decades! Chrysler was still producing them way into the 70s maybe longer, for the marine and industrial applications. they run great and hardly ever need any parts. I can rebuild one for the same price as a chevy small block.
