Head Bolts

Post by rc51racer »

I'm looking to verify that I need 18 of the standard head bolts and 3 of the ones that are tapped.

Any body use an ARP part instead?

I found these http://headbolts.com/mopar-l6-fastener.html CHBS-1164 but the set doesn't include the tapped bolts.

Any sources other than the usual vendors? (Midwest and VPW)

I have used the ARP head studs on my 251 engine rebuild. These studs are far better material and clamping forces are better when using them. I have had no problems and yes you need 21 studs. Some of them are a little longer so you can adapt your tubing clamps and filter brackets to them. Hope this link attached works and this is what I bought about 5 years ago..Just measure your existing studs to confirm the correct lengths..
HEAD STUD SOURCE
ARP. Contact Kami @ 800-826-3045. All are quantity of 21 each.
Stud-- 7/16 X 3.75 AP3.750-1LB
Nut-- 7/16-20 Black 12 point APN12-1
Washer 7/16ID 13/160D non-chamfer APW1316N
These are black finish and notice the nuts are 12 point but you can order 6 point if desired.

Achiem37, thanks for the info on the head bolts.

I'm going more for an original look, Midwest Military has NOS tapped head bolts so I got 3 of those.

The other 18 I sourced from the engine re-builder, for reference the originals are 7/16”-14NC x 2” 13/16.
