NDT's suck.

Not being picky, but.... the Budd rims aren't split rims; they're lock-ring rims. There is a difference. Supplies of Yokohama Geolandars are dwindling - and squeezing the 315-aspect ratio tire on the 6.5" Budd rim sorta works, but it isn't really recommended.

That being said, Power King still makes a 9.00x16 tire for use on the Budd rim...

Ever thought about installing studs in the lugs? Do they make a drill / kit to do this? You wouldn't need to do every lug either. Then it would be " BAD ". The crazy prices on tires are out of hand like fuel. Half of the original purchase price just for tires. Then tubes. Then shipping, then install, dismount/mount. Split rims are turned away in places. Most new tires are tubless with flexy sidewalls. The end choice for me was just buy a set of chains and use them when the roads mandate only. A pain to put on, but the financial pain of tires is large also. Now, the cool part is that "drifting" your M37 on snow and ice is easy! John

Those are Goodyear Custom Xtra Grips. I'm pretty sure they're not available anymore in the US. Garbee has a short section on the tire page of his website. I'd love to have a set of those.

The Power King Super Traction LT has a tread pattern that is very similar to the Xtra Grip -

Sorry to resurect an old thread - but by far the cheapest, most cost-effective, and least labour intensive way to gain more traction with the NDT's is to simply purchase a tire groover, and sipe the tread. Siping is the art of cutting the tires face with shallow cuts. This allows the rubber face to move around a little to find traction on wet and ice covered roads. You'd be amazed at how a little siping will dramaticaly improve a tires traction characteristics.

By no means am I stating that some siping will turn your 40 year old NDT into a modern winter tire when it comes to traction - but it just might make the difference between not drivign your truck when are where you want, or a thousand dollars on a set of tires that you may not like the look of.

I screwed some 4 wheeler studs in my tires.
Pretty cheap, makes a difference. I was surprised, they stay in the tire.
Useing semi chain to plow, or for deep drifts.
Can't wait to get better tires

I can fix the NDT "Sucking" problem, I'll take all the NDT's you guys don't like off your hands for free!! All you have to do is ship them to my home address and all your problems will go away, you won't have that clutter in the garage anymore, the missus won't be complaining about all the crud laying about the place and your wallet will be much lighter given the cost of the freight to get them to me so you won't even have the worry and stress about what you're gonna spend that spare cash on

I got to say. They are damn tough tires.
Just not the best on ice. I see a lot of ice for at least half the year.
I'm amazed how a six thousand pound truck can drive up on snow burms and drive through 4 ft. Drifts.
Getting the neighbors in there new 40,000 dollar trucks unstuck.
I put ambulance springs on my truck.
I'm liking the clearance.
NDT's do pretty good in snow. On ice they are scary.

I do need a few , I am not sure I would have room for all the spare NDT's the guys on here have, I might end up looking like the local junk yard.
I am in Tasmania, Australia, hence the comment of your wallet being very light after the freight had been paid for the delivery to my home QTH
