I bought my truck in 07 and payed full price for real truck plates not collector plates. I bought one of the best fwd trucks ever built, why would I want to park it when the snow blows! I didn't want to be told when and how to use my truck.
My truck is registered as a 3/4 ton Dodge truck just as you say.
BUT.... The law says ALL military vehicles MUST be re-registered and issued Military Collector Plates, and to qualify it must be original.
My latest Idea is to rebuild it as a armored gun truck, I'd love to see the pud at the DMV crap himself with that.

Although I found your reply funny (and to the point ), I don't think those who display the above attitude would want to do that (move) as they like their expencive status symbol imports.

Rich, I asked that exact question of my rep when I wrote him about my situation. I asked him what I should do if my truck was originally an armored gun truck with two fiftys in the bed. I asked him if they would liek me to drive around town with armor plate and two working 50's, because having replicas wouldn't be orginal... Needless to say I didnt get a response. Im sure I got put on "a list" somewhere in Madison.

To All It May Concern:

Once again we have been notified by yet another Official from the Iowa DOT. Mr. Agnew had originally talked with an Officer Chad White. Then an Officer Andrew Lewis, and now we received a copy of a letter sent by the director of the Iowa DOT a Mr. Paul Trombino III .

In the letter received by Mr. Trombino III he sites the very code, 321.30 we have been working for weeks now to provide the proof asked for by Mr. White and Mr. Lewis?? I must respectfully ask if there is a lack of communication in this issue between departments?

We are most willing to provide Mr. Trombino III with any information we have made available to all of You, and to the Iowa DOT to date. I’m not sure what else we can offer but the proof we have submitted to date.

To bring this issue to an end, please contact Mr. Trombino III and request any additional info he needs and Mr. Agnew and Myself will be more than happy to send him copies of everything we have. I see no reason we can’t all resolve this in a timely fashion?

If I may add one thing.
Mr. & Mrs. Agnew, retired, hard working, proud Americans traveled to Utah by train and drove this vehicle over the mountains and half way across our great Nation to Burlington Iowa. All they ask is to be able to proudly drive a part of our American History.
Let’s not let a mistake made by the United States Government Liquidators, the people hired by our very own Government to sell these vehicles at public auctions to Civilians penalize the Agnew’s.
We have proved this truck is a 1967 build and not a 1989 so it does not, in fact need the (FMVSS) safety sticker.
These are the very trucks in which we send our young Soldiers into battle. Now are we telling a retired couple, a Man that served his Country in the National Guard he cannot drive this very same truck in peace time?

I think what the gubment-types are concerned about here is the fact that any civilian individual that would buy these vehicles might also intend (in disguise) to do harm to the general public... this is my 'feeling' as to why these issues are starting to crop up.

Ali Ackbar Mustafa might be inclined to purchase one of these ex-MV's and portray himself as a soldier, with intents to do harm to others. This is a possible scenario that the gubment-types obsess over by day...

The times are changing, later than Bob Dylan thought they would... my truck in NC will not be painted in 'military garb' by choice. It is intended to be painted Haze Gray, which most people think is gray primer. Size of truck is another reason that I went with a '37 - it looks like an old farm truck from way back -

Just a Friendly thought! Please take this in the good natured way it is intended.
I must respectly disagree with the theory an individual would buy one of these trucks to "intend to do harm" to the general public.
I own an M-37 and have never started a revolution. (other than with the Wife)(besides, it's really her truck)
I own a gun safe full of fire-arms and have no intention of doing harm to anyone that has no intention of doing harm to me.
The Government forces me to wear my seatbelt but I'll bet someday I'll die anyway.
I really think this is a State Department of Motor Vehicles that needs potty training!

Hey Crew!
I'm sure by now you have all heard I've been helping a Friend with a legal matter of sorts. Well, today 01/17/2012 at 16:30 at the Des Moines County Court House my Buddy received his title, registration and license plates for a 1967, M35A2C Military vehicle he purchased in Utah, drove to Iowa and could not title do to a clerical error on the Government Liquidators' paperwork.

After weeks of research, hundreds of e-mails, phone calls and the cooperation of every department of State and Federal Government that would listen to our plea for assistance, we achieved a happy ending to our struggle through all the "red tape", as they say!

I will send out an official "Thank-You" to all the parties involved in this campaign tomorrow. The list of people we owe gratitude, is endless. But, for tonight, it's lights out for the old "Junkyard-Dog"!

Ladies and Gentlemen:
It is my humble pleasure to inform you at this time, Mr. & Mrs. Agnew received their clear title and registration from the Iowa DOT yesterday, 01/17/2012 at the Des Moines Iowa County Court House!

There was a clerical error on the paperwork given to the previous owner that purchased the vehicle from “Government Liquidators”, a private company that sells excess Military surplus.

With the help and unwavering support of All Of You Folks we have resolved this issue. The State of Iowa issued a clear title when provided with all the evidence needed; to provide proof positive this vehicle was built for the United States Government in 1967!

The list of Americans that joined our campaign to resolve this issue is too long to record every name in this letter. Let me just simply say, please share this “Thank You” note with all the members of your office, your staff and your Families. We salute you all, patriots, each and every one of you.

As we honor our returning Veterans, who fight for our Great Nation and our Freedom, know that all of you have helped preserve another type of Veteran, a “Steel-Solder”. These vehicles carry our troops into battle and when they retire, like our Veterans we need to honor them as well.

Glad to see the problem get solved, no one went to jail and it seems the folks in Iowa are satisfied their MVD folks are not Communists.

Now that the water in the pot is simmering can anyone tell us exactly what error was on which document prepared by Government Liquidators? Was Government Liquidators contacted about the error? Were they willing or unwilling to issue a corrected document?

Here is the short story.
The truck was built new by A M General in 1967.
The truck was refurbished in 1989 at Letterkenny Army Depot.
When "Government Liquidators" sold the truck at auction they sold it as a 1989.
Utah titled the truck with a 15 digit VIN number as a 1989.
Iowa requires a 17 digit VIN number on anything newer than 25 years old.
We had to go back and prove the truck was a 1967 and not a 1989.
We did almost have to force Government Liquidators to send us the original "DD-97 form" from the auction in Utah. (DD-97 I think)
They had to "black out" the name of the buyer but all we needed were the original serial numbers.
Once we provided the proof it was actually built new in 1967, the 15 digit VIN was adequate to titile in the state of Iowa.
I spent weeks of calling, e-mailing and researching. 375 e-mail later, Mission Accomplished!
Lots of help from Members right here on this web-site!!
Lots of help from Congressmen, Senators, Representatives, and local Police and Sheriff departments.
I truly believe, it does need to be addressed in the House and Senate to put a regulation into effect pertaining to these Military vehicles.
We buy these trucks for the Military with our tax dollars. Then the Government has a private entity, auction "our" vehicles back to Civilians, many of whom are Veterans, and then they tell you, you can't drive the truck you bought twice?? DUH. We cannot let this go!
