Front lifting shackle question

Post by dispatcher1011 »

Hello all,

On my 1954 M37, WO/W,I have a question about the front lifting shackles.

Is there a spacer or something I am missing for the back bolt?

The two front bolts go through the bumper/frame, and they sit flush.

The back single bolt has a gap between the frame and shackle.

How do you guys deal with that space? Stack of washers?

I never had a bumper on my truck, so I don't know if I am missing pieces or not.

Thanks!

I am going to check my rig for you. But I don't think I have any washers (either type) on my front bumper.

Mine has a washer or maybe a spacer in the gap. I can't swear that mine is original. Looks like this: (Don't mind the color shift, had to use a flashlight so the camera would focus.)

I just took off my bumper and lifting shackle brackets this weekend. There was spacers/thick washers for both back bolts . Under the million different layers of paint, the spacers and bottom of the brackets were the original OD so I'm guessing the spacers are original as well.

Does anyone here have a lead on these brackets? I have the shackles now but my truck was missing the bracket.

Bob or AB Linn should have them. I just looked at mine, apparently I have the spacer/washer.
I just couldn't see them in my webshots albums?

I installed washers under my back bolts-didn't like the thought of so much torque on the front bracket holes due to the downward pressure from the back bolt.

These are nothing more than extra thick flat washers; easy to get, just check the mcmaster-carr catalog in the flat washer section.
