VIN / Serial Number Deuce & A Half??

Post by Tim Powell »

Hey Crew.
I know some of you Guys have some heavy iron sitting around. My Buddy bought a M35A2C he thought. It is titled as a 1989. Can't be! Anyway I've been pestering poor Charles to the point I need to mortgage my house to offer him a bribe. Tried to give him another Wife but he wisely declined my offer!! Anyway we cannot find the original frame number to prove what year this truck was built. The only number we can find so far is directly above and forward of the front axle on the left side. What are we missing? The tag is also missing off the front pumpkin. Thank you in advance for all your help, tips and guidance.

Tim,
Is that number on the frame something like 4 numbers with a space then 5 more numbers? The number tags on the front axles don't mean much as the axles can be changed out as an assembly.

Tim,
I was looking at your post on steelsoldiers website and you mentioned the only number that you have found is the one on the left frame. Did the rebuilder remove the original stamping then restamp it with the 0125 31880 and does that # match the one on the dash? For instance one of my 1971 m35a2 # is 0539 11461.

I think the rebuilder did change the dash plate and the frame number.
Dash plate NKOEQH-0125-31880
Frame number found first 0125 31880
Pumpkin number found yesterday 8 18 67 01

We have absolutely hit a dead end. Iowa DOT is telling my Friend his truck was built for "off-road" use only. The second and last thing we heard was the engine would not pas the EPA exhaust standards?? 10K sitting in the yard and can't drive it around the block. I'll put some pictures of it in my photo album tonight.
