Holes in the bed?

Post by 36x24 »

Still can't post pics. Successfully loaded two pics into an album in the Gallery but can't get them into this post. Sigh........... I have a line of roughly 3" holes across my bed floor parallel to the front bulkhead. they appear to be factory and not bubba. haven't seen them in any other pics I've seen. Can someone educate me as to their purpose? Thanks.

Do you know anything of the history of the truck? Wondering if it is ex-fire department and the holes are related to piping for the water tank/pump?

Send them to me at; bclarketwo@richmond.edu replace the two with the number "two". I'll host & post em' for you. I welded three separate individule hole in my bed, then I found a complete hole-less replacement!

thanks for all the responses. the album is under Jim O'Brien. I can weld "any hole I can step across" as my instructors used to say but the holes in question look so factory and the overall condition of the bed is so good that I hesitated to just fill them in without researching them first. If I post them in the album it looks like people can view them although its a bit cumbersome. If they are just above average bubba mods......they are gone!

Your right about the looks of the holes, they look like they are supposed to be there? I have never seen anything like that, but I am no expert ..........!

They look like someone did a very nice job with a hole saw so they could bead blast the bed on the truck and get the inside of the tool box at the same time.

That is your photo linked to the G741 photo page. So I guess you are not using the right method to post them here.

Try picking your photo then right click it then from the drop down menu select Copy image URL and then come to your post and click on the "IMG" icon at the top of the dialog box and a pair of {img} {/img} will appear and paste that copied URL between them.

There are knock out tools that electricians use to cut nice clean holes in electrical panels and I bet they used one of those tools to cut the holes. Looks factory when done but it's not. Just wondering do you have data plates on your truck and do they say anything like M42? The only thing I could think someone would do that for would be to either A: run a lot of cabling out of the bed for commo equipment, or B: they wanted a whole lot of water to drain out of the bed quickly. That's the only thing I can think of.

Data plate says "ORD. CORPS." Got fresh batteries and welding cable this AM. Going to solder new battery cables this PM and delve into the engine miss tonite. Good Times.
