USA Numbers

Post by WarrenD »

Is there any way to determine what the correct USA numbers for a vehicle are? I'm trying to find out if the USA numbers on my truck are the actaul ones that belong there or were just made up by a previous owner. (CARNAC on SS tried and came up empty). I have the data plate info, built in 3/53 and I even have an oval tag on the passensger side firewall (can't read it due to paint build up, but I can fix that!).

There is a formula to the USA registration numbers depending on when it was accepted into service.

Check the M37 registry for serial numbers close to yours and see what the registration numbers listed are. That should give you the number range the truck would be in.

Depending on when the US accepted the trucks into service the registration numbers may be lower for higher serial number trucks.

Thanks. The only nearby USA number was for a vehicle that is 100 numbers higher in SN but the USA number is 230 less. It does fit to a degree with what you say, so it's possible that the USA number on my truck is correct.
