In 1970 I was a Steamfitter apprentice that helped build the Twin Towers. A great way to get over any fear of heights one might have. In the mid 90s I spent a few years running a major up grade to the A/C because of the increase of computer use. I was there a few years and my office was in the second basement. Lunch times I had one of the guys bring me lunch as I was usually busy on the phone, hence lunch trays piled up. Most were returned but when I left the job the truck driver cleaned out the shanty and sent it all to my next job. Instead of throwing the three trays away I brought them home for leaky Brit bikes. No more bikes for a while and I only found them two years ago in my shop. As a side story my older Son was working for the same boss in tower one on the 70th floor, he was transfered two days before 9-11 (WHICH I DIDN'T KNOW!} 8 hours later the cell service was back and I knew he was OK, those 8 hours were rougher than any fire fight I was in. BTW, I offered a tray to both the ground zero museum and to President Bushs library, neither wanted one?

Thank you Paul for posting the link. I knew about the Blue Star Flag as my parents displayed one when I was in harms way. Here is one for you, at my Grandmothers house in St. Louis during WWII her flag had 4 stars for the 4 son's, 2 Army, 1 Marine, 1 Navy. The unusual part was in the center was a larger Star for her husband that was still active duty as a drill Sgt. My Grandma made .50 cal ammo during the war. What I didn't know was the history of the Blue and Gold Star Flag.

I flew my aircraft up and down the Hudson by the Towers. 4 times the friday before 9/11, then again that saturday when I flew direct back to central florida when I saw them for the last time.
Great post. Know that flag well. My grandmother flew a 4 star in WWII, My dad flew a 3 star in the 60's and I now fly a two star.
Wayne, interesting! my Grandmother and her daughter worked in the Philadelphia Army Ammunition Plant during WWII while my grandfather was a Capt in the Army Arty in Europe, my uncles were a Army Corpsman in Europe, a Navy fire control tech on a DD in the Pacific and my dad was a Navy Aviation Machinist assigned to Marine Air Wings in the Pacific. In the 60's I had one brother in the Army and the other in the Navy. I was USAF 66 thru 89. Today I have a son in the USAF and a Son-in-Law in the Army (both career).
Could you imagine what streets would look like if all families entitled to fly a Blue Star flag flew one?
